Technical Production Planning Specialist (PCBA / Material Management)
- Drone R&D
Role Summary
We are looking for a professional who will manage the intersection of material availability and production capacity. You will be responsible for establishing board-level production schedules, operating the MRP system, ensuring complete production kits, and controlling the shelf life and traceability of SMD materials.
This role is not simply about order tracking in Excel; it requires a planning professional who understands BOM structures, PCBA manufacturing, and SMT assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and board-level work order plans; manage capacity-load balancing, production lines/shifts, and setup optimization
- Operate the MRP system: calculate gross/net material requirements based on revision-controlled BOMs, manage lead-time offsets, MOQ/MPQ, safety stock, and open purchase orders
- Manage production kitting: verify kit completeness before work order release, prepare shortage lists, track critical line-side components daily, and manage partial-kit decisions
- Manage SMD component inventory: verify stock accuracy at reel/spool level, reconcile line-side inventory, analyze scrap and setup losses, and maintain the reel barcode system
- Control MSL and shelf life in accordance with J-STD-033: manage dry cabinets, floor-life counters, and bake planning; ensure FIFO management of shelf-life-controlled consumables such as solder paste and adhesives
- Ensure material traceability by linking lot/date codes to work orders and serial numbers; provide data required for as-built records and aerospace traceability/recall capability
- Maintain ERP data including routings, standard operation times, work centers, and revision-controlled BOMs
- Manage EMS/contract manufacturing planning: consignment material shipments, reconciliation of materials provided to subcontractors, and tracking of subcontracted work orders
- Develop and maintain inventory policies: ABC/XYZ classification, inventory turnover, reduction of obsolete/excess stock, and cycle-count programs
- Manage ECO/revision transitions and cut-in points: depletion of old-revision inventory, prevention of revision mixing, and scrap/rework decisions
- Provide input for CTP/ATP commitments and proactively report delivery risks and potential delays
- Establish storage, labeling, and internal logistics processes in compliance with FOD and ESD requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field; associate degree candidates may be considered with strong relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production planning and/or material management within an electronic/PCB assembly manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to read, analyze, and validate BOMs, with solid understanding of revision-controlled BOMs and Alternative/Approved Manufacturer List (AML) concepts
- Practical knowledge of SMD component management and SMT assembly processes, including:
- Reel/feeder management
- Setup times
- Panel-to-board relationships
- Quantity calculations for multi-board panels
- SMT placement scrap rates
- Practical understanding of MSL / moisture sensitivity and shelf-life requirements
- Ability to interpret technical manufacturing data, including:
- Assembly drawings
- Work order packages
- Pick-and-place files
- Feeder/setup lists
- Hands-on user experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, IFS, Netsis/Logo, Odoo, Epicor, etc.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong data analysis and reporting capabilities
- Technical English proficiency sufficient to read and understand technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing and AS9100 environments; experience establishing lot/serial-number traceability
- Experience implementing MES / manufacturing traceability systems such as Aegis, Critical Manufacturing, or similar barcode-based production tracking systems
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools such as Kanban, SMED, Value Stream Mapping, and 5S
- Experience with Power BI and/or SQL for reporting and data analysis
- APICS CPIM / CSCP certification
- Experience with EMS/contract manufacturing and consignment-based material planning
